Protection & Defense

In defense and protection environments, personnel can be exposed to sudden heat, flames and thermal hazards during combat, tactical operations or incidents involving vehicles and aircraft. Sewing threads used in protective garments must therefore maintain seam integrity under thermal stress and should not melt or contribute to flame propagation. High heat and flame resistance, mechanical strength, and abrasion resistance are essential.

In defense and protection environments, personnel may be exposed to ballistic threats, sharp objects and extreme mechanical stress. Protective garments and equipment therefore rely on highly resistant materials and seams that must remain secure under demanding conditions. Sewing threads require very high tensile strength, excellent abrasion and cut resistance, low elongation and reliable performance under repeated mechanical loads.

Applications: Body armour and vest carriers, plate carriers, stab- and cut-resistant garments, riot gear, protective tactical equipment and gloves.

Defense and protection applications can place highly specific demands on sewing and embroidery threads. Depending on their function, different applications require distinctly different performance characteristics.

Defense and protection equipment used in the field is often exposed to prolonged sunlight, rain, moisture, temperature changes and harsh outdoor conditions. Sewing threads must therefore maintain their strength, colour fastness even after extended environmental exposure. High UV resistance, weather resistance, moisture resistance, abrasion resistance and long-term durability are key requirements.

Applications: Field and rainwear, tents, shelters, tarpaulins, equipment covers, backpacks, rucksacks and other outdoor equipment.

Defense and protection applications such as footwear, backpacks and other heavy-duty textiles are exposed to continuous friction, movement and high mechanical stress. Sewing threads must therefore provide excellent abrasion resistance, high strength and reliable seam performance even under intensive and repeated use. Long-term durability and resistance to surface wear are key requirements.

Applications: Combat and tactical boots, protective footwear, backpacks and rucksacks, tactical and equipment bags, pouches, webbing systems and other heavy-duty textile equipment.

Not all defense and protection applications require specialized protective thread properties. For service, dress and parade uniforms, the focus is on reliable sewability, durable seams and a consistently high-quality appearance throughout everyday use.
